Speaking Of Our Inner Gold

Speaking Of Our Inner Gold
Reflecting...
  • All of us realize the "inner gold" enveloped within the lives of ourselves and others.  In one way or another we term it our potential. The talents, drives, thoughts, and heartbeats within that can change lives, influence generations, care for others when caring seems almost impossible, fight for causes worth fighting for, and love when loving seems not only impossible but improbable at best.
  • It is, truly, "inner gold."  The inner beauty if you please that can be found, developed, and refined to serve everything good in our world.
  • Of course, there is a negative side to such potential, but that is not our focus here.  We are focusing on the inner beauty that can spring from the hearts of people and that can be tapped into for the purpose of loving, serving, growing, molding, mentoring and influencing our world for the best.
Reflecting More...
  • Question: should you recognize some level of that inner beauty in the life (or lives) of a person you know, do they know even in a small way how you feel?  Have you tapped into your own reservoir of potential to encourage, lift up, inspire, or reflect appreciation to another within your circle of influence?
  • And another question: Have you taken any time recently to reflect upon your own "inner gold."  The characteristics, talents, abilities, thought patterns or desires that could be mined for the purpose of reflecting even more of their worth?  No, I am not speaking of false pride here: I am speaking of the honest giving thought to the honest positive characteristics, desires, values and abilities that you possess and which you could lay hold of just a bit more for your own creative, life-giving, positive influence purposes in our world.  It's okay, you know!
  • Having said all that, what about that journal that you possess?  Does any "inner gold" lie within for that could be added to for the purpose of enhancing your own reflections later or even sharing its contents in a way that could influence others in a life-enhancing manner or for cherished values based potential?
A Takeway...

An Encourager

Reflecting...
  • "Sunshine in the heart." We all need it and love it when it comes our way.
  • Bright moments may invade our lives through a note, smile, hug, handshake, text message, movie, something we catch on television or maybe even the news at times.
  • "And the point is?"  Answer: those encouraging, bright, "sun shiney" moments are needed, appreciated and... we can give them!
Reflecting More...
  • Quick: if you had to bring a moment of encouragement in the the life of someone today -- even for a few moments -- who would come to mind and what would you do?
  • Would you sit down and write a post like this to see if you can generate a few and be a positive influence in the world? Or, would you initiate that note, smile, hug, handshake, text message, etc., etc?
  • If you were to journal about how a person has encouraged you or the importance of being an encouragement to others, what might you journal?  And, if you only have five minutes -- just five, now! -- to do so: what you you record that quick in your journal

Being A Good Dad

Reflecting...
  • I love being a dad.  Love it.  I could never have imagined the honor of being married to the love of my life in the first place... let alone experiencing the privilege of being a father.
  • Ad I think of making the many and varied attempts at being a father of quality, words such as "investing," "sharing," and "releasing" come quickly to mind.
  • However, none touches the heart as the the word "loving."
  • In brief, we've got to do it as dads.  We love during the on days, the off days and every day in between... and we do so if we are determined to succeed in this business of "being a good father."
Reflecting More...
  • Should you decide to do so again on this day, what beauty could you be on the look out for to enjoy, create, or share?
  • If you were to journal -- for the sake of joy -- several thoughts about being a father, what might you say?  And, maybe more importantly, why would you say it?  Could be good stuff for your journal!

Beauty In Life

Reflecting...
  • So much of life is what we see and how we choose to see it.
  • Of course, you could reverse that statement and place the emphasis on choosing how we are going to see whatever we do see in any given day.
  • It's all about two words: (1) perspective; and (2) choice.
  • In your present or past, how have you chosen to see or create beauty in your world or the world of someone else?  No doubt you have done so many, many times.  And...
  • Should you decide to do so again on this day, what beauty could you be on the look out for to enjoy, create, or share?
  • Should you happen to journal -- in a very, very brief form -- the three most important things you have learned about seeing or creating beauty in a person's world, what would you record?
A Takeway...

Speaking Of Gratefulness

Reflecting...
  • Stop, think and be grateful!  "Be grateful for what?" you ask.  Anything.  People, memories, moments of joy, being helped during a heartache, victory in an athletic event, or a cool breeze somewhere.  Again: anything!
  • If you had to journal something about being grateful, what would you say?
  • And what about sharing? If you had to give 3 tips on "the art of staying grateful over the long haul," what would you say to a group of people?  Or... your child?
A Takeway...

Good Time Management

Reflecting...

  • Should you state your best way -- or ways -- for making the most of the moments of our lives, what would that be?
  • Should you record that in a journal
  • Or, possibly, should you design something to share with someone based on your insights?

A Takeway...

At Times Small Is Not Just Good -- It Is Perfect!

At Times Small Is Not Just Good -- It Is Perfect!

Walking somewhere during a rough time...

You do,
Say,
Or think something that is “good,” (i.e., positive in nature) BUT...

You find yourself responding something like this on the inside:

“But, it’s so, so small!”

That may be true, but is it the best internal response?

--- When Small Isn’t That Small! --

My whole point in this brief, but important, note is:

When something is small -- and good -- be very careful about minimizing the importance of the thought, word or action by placing the emphasis on “small” in your response.

Remember, our internal dialogues travel with feelings attached to them, and our feelings can:

Diminish the spirit,
Promote non-truthful thinking,
And place a “Stop” sign on forward movement.

-- Try This Instead --

Instead, positively embrace whatever was good:

The good thought,
The good word,
Or the good action.

Affirm such things as “steps.”  Steps in the right direction.

After all, steps are crucial.

Positive steps,
Acknowledged as such,
Create positive differences in our lives.

--- It’s All About Our Framework --

When that which is small is cast within a framework of that which is...

Positive,
Encouraging,
Affirming,
Or Helpful...

Things can change for the best!

Purposes can be reinforced,
Good feelings can be strengthened,
And positive motions can be solidified.

--- Once Again ---

Beware of attaching wrong internal values to that which may be momentarily small in terms of a monumental advancement.

Instead...

Affirm what is small -- and good --
For the all the good that can become of it!

Beautiful Traditions - Begin Them. Keep Them.

Beautiful Traditions -
Begin Them.  Keep Them.
© Lee Wise

Imagine a statement made by someone in your family during the Christmas season:

"I know, let's find a place where we can cut down our own Christmas tree!"

Well, honestly, I do not remember the exact words that began that tradition for us in the Wise family home, but I do know this:

Cutting down the first Christmas tree ushered in
a thirty-plus year (or more!) family tradition...

And we have loved it!

As it would turn out, this singular act would evolve into an ever-growing list of ritualistic endeavors including, but not necessarily limited to:

  • Borrowing a truck
  • Getting the kids into the other car ("Who is going to ride with dad in the truck?")
  • Apprehending the dogs
  • Sentencing an occasional boyfriend (or two) to be a part of the mayhem...
And the Wise family would be off on another Christmas season odyssey of their own making.

Once the tree found a resting place safely in its new home, the decorating would begin.

"Where are the Christmas boxes?"
"Ah, dad, isn't the tree a bit crooked?"
"The lights.  We've *got* to do something about the lights."

And yes...

  • At times the tree had more than a small resemblance to the unique stance of the Eiffel Tower,
  • The process took longer than expected,
  • And the lights worked looked just fine... most of the time!
But in the end...
  • The beauty of the family prevailed,
  • Relationships were remembered and strengthened,
  • And a spirit of quiet rest overcame those fortunate enough to take part in our ritual.
So Why Share This Snapshot Of Our Family Adventures?

It's really quite simple.  I wanted to set the stage for your reading of the following six words:

"Good Traditions Are A Good Thing."

Good traditions tend to...

  1. Provide a treasure chest of quality memories
  2. Build and reinforce relationships
  3. Give us a sense of stability during unstable times
  4. Strengthen the family unit
And Now For A Few Simple Questions...

What are the important rituals of your life?
What are your important family rituals?

What meaningful tradition could you begin?
What ritual or tradition should you begin?

Should you capture any traditions in one way or another for the purpose of preserving them for future generations?

And Remember...

"Good Traditions Are A Good Thing"

Yours for a day filled with beautiful moments in time,

Lee
